Washing Instructions - Machine wash with cold water – Gentle cycle with mild soap. Air Dry or Machine Dry/No Heat

When using a blanket or sheet it is critical to monitor the fluctuating climate and temperatures even with a blanket that is waterproof and breathable. The wicking properties of a breathable blanket are designed to wick away normal body heat, when a blanket is too heavy the heat and moisture cannot be wicked away fast enough causing your horse to sweat. The temperature and the length of your horse’s coat will determine what weight of blanket you should use. For this reason, most people who choose to blanket horses have several articles of horse clothing that offer varying levels of warmth.

Horses Turned Outside without Shelter - Turnout Sheet and Blanket materials are waterproof and designed to keep your horse dry, however if your horse is turned out in a field without a run in shed or shelter during prolonged rain or heavy downpours your horse may still get wet especially in the neck and tail areas.

When selecting a blanket ensure to take into account your horse’s behavior, environment or other horses that may be turned out with your horse. The lower the denier number the less strength the material has. 420 Denier and 600 Denier are not recommended for horses that bite, chew or rub on blankets or for horses turned out with a companion or in a group.

Always ensure your horse’s blanket is properly fitted and all straps are adjusted correctly, if a blanket is too tight or too loose, straps may break and material may tear.  For younger horses or horses turned out with a companion or in groups, it is recommended to purchase 1200 Denier or 1680 Denier material as these are stronger materials and are less likely to tear.

Certain types of fencing such as barbwire or foreign objects such as nails will easily tear any blanket no matter what the denier, always inspect the area in which your horse is kept to remove any nails or jagged fencing that may cause damage. There are no horse blankets that are guaranteed to not rip or tear.

Sizing issue
These work well for what they are but the sizing is off. They are made for long thin necked horses. I have a 14 H mustang that took a large and a Tennessee Walker 15.2 that needs an XL but because his neck is shorter it about 8 in too long. I bought a couple of mediums that don't fit anyone I have so I am stuck with them. On the positive side the horses really liked them and we had super cold temp here in VT this winter.

Ordered a Defender blanket last year that has neck cover. Like the blanket but hate the neck cover. I own multiple Tough1 blankets and sheets and they are my absolute favorite. Ordered this neck cover from Tough 1 and it is far superior to Defender. This cover has snaps which are s must! Fits well. Can't use the Defender because it comes with Velcro which is disaster. Ends up in the dirt every time!

good if you like products with cheap hardware
Lets just say mine lasted two weeks. one of my clips became too loose after the first week and wont stay shut, the second one my D ring ripped off the blanket therefore I have on clip attached so it keeps just coming off my horse. Would be nice if the hardware on this didn't completely suck it even just feels like a piece of plastic not solid metal. Very disappointed from someone who has gone through a lot of tough 1 blankets, never buying tough 1 again switching brands. waste of $60

I love it!
I never new there were just neck covers. I feed for a lady quite often and when I had to blanket her horses in the winter this was the first time I ever saw just a neck cover. I loved how easy they were to put on the horse and attach it to the blanket. I loved that it even attached to a Big D blanket. I knew I had to have one. I loved it so much that I bought my own for my horses.

Wonderful product!
I've bought two of these and love them, the only thing that I would change is there needs to be an XL. I have a big mare she is about 1,400 lbs and its snug on her but not so tight she can't wear it. Tough-1 products are the best on the market, I have horses that tear their winter gear up but these products last and you get your moneys worth.

Tough out in pasture with 10 horses
This goes completely around the neck and has no holes for cold air to get in. It even flares a bit at the jowles to further keep all warmth in. Perfect fit with my tough-1 blanket. I bought two and will be buying two more. My horses are out in a pasture with 10 other horses and it is durable and tough.I highly recommend.

No Fit Problem here
I have a cross bred Perch/Paint or many like to say Spotted draft. He is 17.3 hands and has a slightly think neck comsidering the draft in him....it fits his bulky size. I bought 2 of these neck wraps and 1 was for my 15.3 paint and the other for this guy I am talking about. I could not get XL for my Cross Bred but the large does fit him fine and I didn't think it would. My only issue is I wish it was longer BUT if I had the Snuggit blanket which covers up the neck a little higher I don't think it would be a issue. When he puts his head down to eat there is about a 3 or 4 inch gap in coverage. I knwo they make XL but I am having a terrible time finding a XL in black for my big guy.

Great for older horses
This neck cover is perfect for my 20 yr old mare. She is pretty much inactive most of the time due to arthritis, so doesn't get much excercise to warm her up. So I put this on her at night when she lays down, and when it's cold/windy/rainy during those Ohio winter days. It does stay in place and keeps her mane clean, until she starts grazing with her head down. Then it slips up around her neck.Would be nice if ALL the Tough 1 blankets came with the hooks and snaps to keep it in place. Double check to make sure if ordering anyof the Tough-1 blankets. The high neck 300 g blanket does not have snaps-which would have provided ultimate warmth with the neck cover.

Stays on super well and covers better than any neck cover I've owned before. Even when itching or playing, this neck cover has held up for my boy!

We get one or two snow falls each year and my horses choose to stand out in it instead of under the shed, so I bought this product in hopes to keep them more comfortable and let them stay out in the weather if they so choose. Right now it is lying on my living room floor and the cat is certainly enjoying it.

I have a tough one blanket on two horses and needed hoods to match. I don't like full hoods and prefer neck covers. Got a discount on buying two.

Does this hood have straps to attach it to the blanket?
A shopper on Jun 5, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yea it does. My wife loves the neck cover. We went through several other brands that our horses destroyed in short time.
ick cover lined, or is it a summer neck cover?
natasha q on Apr 26, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It is a winter neck cover and therefore too heavy for summer. His neck measurement indicated he should have a small but the base would not close around the lower portion of his neck. I returned it and am patiently waiting for the medium to arrive.
does this hood have to attach to halter with snaps?
A shopper on Jan 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The hood attaches to blanket at base of neck by clips. Blanket must have rings to attach hood. I do not attach the hood to a halter, and it works just fine. I think there is a way to attach with a velcro loop if you want to.
I'm not sure what size to get? I have a Morab who is about 14 hands? He wears a 72 blanket.
Denise E on Nov 17, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Really just depends on how large the neck of your house is. I have 3 quarter horses that all wear blankets ranging from75 to 78. I have a haflinger who wears a 68 but all my guys required a large. Hope this helps.
What size should I get for my thoroughbred? She's 16.2 hh.

BEST ANSWER: Sizing: Measurement from Poll to Withers
Small- 33"
Medium- 36"
Large 38"
will this neck cover work with a Medium weight waterproof Weatherbeeta blanket?
Blythe D on Nov 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It may, but if it does you probably have to rig it. I've paired neck covers with different brands of blankets for years, but I usually have to tweak it; for example, moving or adding a dee ring, sewing on extra strap length, etc.
