Measuring Instructions:
Stand your horse as square as possible, and measure from the center of chest around side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If your horse ends up measuring between sizes, always round up to the next size to ensure full coverage.

Washing Instructions:
To keep your blanket as comfortable as possible for your horse and to maximize the blanket's life, it is recommended that you clean your blanket annually. First, remove excess dirt from the outside of the blanket with a brush and hose. The blanket can then be washed either by hand, or on a delicate cycle with cool water in a commercial washer. Use only very mild soap. When the blanket has been washed, allow to drip dry and ensure that the blanket is thoroughly dry before storage. Do not put your horse's blanket in the dryer or wash with hot water. Do not store your horse's blanket if damp or wet. This will damage the waterproof coating and void any warranties.

Horses Turned Outside Without Shelter:
Tough1 Turnout Sheet and Blanket materials are designed to keep your horse dry. However, if your horse is turned out in a field without a run in shed or shelter during prolonged rain or heavy downpours, your horse may still get wet, especially in the neck and tail areas.
When using a blanket or sheet, it is critical to monitor the fluctuating climate and temperatures, even with a blanket that is waterproof and breathable. The wicking properties of a breathable blanket are designed to wick away normal body heat. When a blanket is too heavy, the heat and moisture cannot be wicked away fast enough, causing your horse to sweat. The temperature and the length of your horse’s coat will determine what weight of blanket you should use. For this reason, most people who choose to blanket horses have several articles of horse clothing that offer varying levels of warmth.

RUNS SMALL!! Order a size up or you will never get the belly band on your horse and the shoulders will rub raw! Awesome product for layering under a turnout sheet/blanket as long as you get the right size.

need to know if this blanket will be warm enough for below 0 weather?
A shopper on Sep 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: They are medium weight -- wind and water resistant, but not super heavy. Good fit makes them snuggy tho. So midday in the sun with no wind, probably OK. Shade with severe weather, nope - probably want to layer two of them (which would be my choice anyhow cause they are light in actual weight and have a superb fit.)
does this blanket have leg straps?
A shopper on Nov 4, 2014
BEST ANSWER: not wide webbing leg straps, but replaceable and very adjustable thin elastic straps - the best kind!
How wide is the belly warmer part?
A shopper on Dec 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It is very wide. We have a large bay quarter horse and the belly warmer fits around him with plenty of room for him to move around. We love how our blanket fits, and it is keeping him very warm. We are at a large barn, and several horse owners there have commented on how much they like the blanket.
if your horse is in between sizes to you go up a size or down a size?
A shopper on Nov 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Generally it's best to go with the CLOSEST one to your horse's size, unless he is particularly big-bodied, in which case you should consider rounding up.
Stand your horse as square as possible. Measure from the center of the chest along the side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If your horse ends up measuring between sizes, choose the one closest to your measurement unless your horse is particularly big-bodied.
Measuring is usually best done with a helper and a soft or cloth measuring tape. Take the measurement twice to be sure.
Are these waterproof?
A shopper on Nov 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I'd say they are water resistant, as in a temporary light shower, but not waterproof.
Is this blanket waterproof to be worn outside?
ROSE M on Oct 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It is semi waterproof. We hung it up and applied waterproofing spray to it to help. No horse blanket is going to be completely water proof. Water can get into the collar and soak underneath around the neck. If it is warm enough to rain, your horse doesn't need to be wearing this blanket anyway. My horse loves this blanket. He is elderly and it seemed to help him keep his weight up over winter by saving his energy. He has free access to a barn and pasture.
has anyone used this in snow and rain conditions? How waterproof is it?
KRISTIE M on Dec 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It's not waterproof. I have my horse layered with this one on top. He has a run off his stall and usually stays in on his own if it rains. He evidently chose to stand out in it during the day, don't know how long..but under Blanket waso pretty wet.
Does this item come with a hood?
Brendan S on Aug 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: no
Is there any way I can get more padding on the butt? My horse had a bad accident this year and lost a lot of weight, her hips are rubbing when she lays down, more stuffing there would help tremendously
Shelb on Nov 21, 2014
BEST ANSWER: My warmblood has very prominent withers and had always ended up with bruising & raw spots from her blankets even with a shoulder guard. I sewed a pocket over the withers with a seam down the middle and put long narrow pieces of foam in them to keep the blanket from rubbing. I would think doing the same for your mare with a full lycra sheet and pockets for foam over the hips would provide the same comfort. I took a few tries to get it right, but it was worth it. She now still looks forward to being rode in the winter because her withers aren't sore? This year I also sewed pockets in the front where she would get rub spots at her shoulders and put in quilted fleece. She's had on a blanket for over a month already and no rub spots or sores!
How much fill does this banket have?
