Angled style will be easier on my knees, and allow me to find the stirrup with my foot easier while riding if I loose it.

Which side of the stirrup does the short side go, closest to horse or on the outside?
Susan O on Apr 18, 2016
Best Answer: The short side goes on the inside (next to your horse and the inside of your foot). With the outside of the stirrup "longer", is causes your foot to sit even and parallel to the ground in the bottom of the stirrup instead of angled toward the inside, and causing twist stress on the ligaments of your knee. With normal stirrups, I could only ride about 15 minutes and I would have knee pain and trouble walking when I would dismount. With these stirrups, I can ride 2+hours in steep terrain and dismount from my 16+hh horse (I am 5'4") with no pain or discomfort!!

How do these attach to the fender? Is there any drop distance that you have to take into consideration since the holes in my stirrup straps behind the leather fender are up as far as they will go and there is no room to punch more holes? Very important consideration for short people!

Best Answer: There is no special nor diffrent way way to attach these stirrups, simply just take the old ones out and replace it with the angled stirrups. There were no drop or lift that i had to adjust on my stirrup strap. The only consideration to think of,is the width of the top part of the angle stirrup vs the width of stirrup strap for they come in diffrent size.In addition,I did notice that i had no stress on my knees using the angle far im happy with them..
