Heavy weight
I was really surprised to find such heavy weight wool blanket for my granddaughter..(in her colors). Gave it to her as a gift she loved it. Plus the price was excellent!.
Nice starter show blanket
It's a nice big saddle blanket, there were a few snags of the wool that were pulled out but other than that it's a nice little show blanket for the price. True to color as well.

Not very thick. Purely decorative. May add a small amount of thickness to a regular pad but I wouldn't worry about it causing saddle fit issues over your regular pad
It is fairly thin. I don't use anything under or over mine, but it's definitely not thick and could use cushion.

Can this blanket be used under the saddle by itself, or do I need a pad to go under it?

BEST ANSWER: I've used it multiple times by itself, but it is thin so another pad underneath would probably be ideal. I have a Circle Y and underneath is very cushioned so that's why I've used just this underneath, but I'm working on a green horse and am not in the saddle for a long period of time.

Hi! I'm sorry I am rsponding so late, this was lost in my neverending sea of emails. To answer your question, yes, this needs to be used with a pad under it. This is just a saddle blanket so it is thinner and not as supportive as a pad. Hope this helps :)
It's not thick enough to use alone. I put a plain pad under it. It is very nice looking under the saddle
You could use it on its own, however I have always used a light pad under it.
I used mine over my regular saddle pad for shows.
I would put a pad under it for sure.
It's best to have a pad underneath

What is the width and length of the saddle blanket in inches?
BEST ANSWER: I don't have the exact measurement. But I used it to as a top bracket to cover a professional choice air ride pad and it completely covered the pad and then some. I was very happy with the heavy weight of the wool blanket.
