I have 2 horses that need to maintain, or lose weight so was advised to get a slow feeder. All 4 of our horses though tend to make quite a mess with the hay in their stalls and we end up throwing quite a bit away at times. This will hopefully address both issues and it sounds like it might be just what we need. I rely on reviews frequently and the positives seemed to outweigh the less positive in this case.

Had the best reviews

This slow feeder is very well made and is quite large. After several months of use it shows no sign of wear. I found that buying 3 double-ended trigger snaps to close the metal loops on top holds it more securely.

Love this hay bag as it slows my draft horse down while eating. although he can finish the bag completely in about an hour & a half my other draft eats much slower and sometimes still has hay left hours later.

How big? How many flakes fit?
Ann M on Jul 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This is the best slow feeder bag I have purchased. It easily holds 2-3 large flakes depending on the size of your flakes.....very little wear after a full year of hanging in my barn & run in area's other than color fade. I have purchased 4 of them!
Why is there a price difference between the colors? Is the material and quality the same?
A shopper on Aug 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: When i purchased mine there was not a price difference between colors.??? Dont know why there would be. I can say it really helped slow down my horses eating. The holes are small enough that she cannot get big mouthfuls. I did have to buy stronger clips to hang the bag though as she pulled it hard enough to break the snaps that came with it.
How many flakes approx does it hold?
A shopper on Nov 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If the flakes are large to very large it will hold one. If the flakes are smaller in size you can fit two or three. I just stuff and fill. It's a great bag.
We have to soak our horse's hay because she gets heaves so easily. Are you able to put the hay in this and then soak it?
Annie on Sep 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I would say yes, you can soak using these nets. I hang mine outside in all weather in New England (rain, hail, snow), have had them for years and haven't had an issue. I would recommend getting multiple though, so that if the fabric starts to get a stink to it you could rest and dry one net and use the other/swap them out. Best of luck!
Is there a tie down strap?
Claire L on Mar 31, 2018
BEST ANSWER: There is the strap that holds it to the fence or wall, or whatever you are hanging it on. then the bottom strap you can see in the picture holds the bag down and attached to the wall or trailer or whatever you are hanging the bag on. It works pretty well.
Do these come in a smaller hole opening?
Cheryl W on Nov 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The openings for the hay to come through are very small. I do not think a horse could eat the hay if they were any smaller. The metal snaps are made of a poor quality soft metal and the horses have to really work to get to the hay so my snaps broke off. Easily fixed by buying some stronger ones to use on this hay net. It suits my purpose though as my horse has to work to get the hay and it has prevented her from gobbling up her hay. The net itself is very well made. I am glad i bought it. I purchased two. Hope this helps. Cb
My older mare has trouble eating from a 2" slow feeder. Do you have any slow feeding bags with larger than 2" openings?
A shopper on Jan 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Fantastic product. Holds up to wear and tear from hungry horses. My horse continues to have the same hay bag and has been using it ever since I bought it 2 years ago. The bag is great because it holds a lot. I sometimes don't attach the top and leave it open so he can free feed from the bag but when I want him to slow down I attach the snap which holds the top together. I recommend this product 100%.
