The Tough-1® 420 Denier Turnout Blanket is an economical way to keep your horse warm and dry.

·         Adjustable Elastic Leg Straps - Help to secure the blanket and prevent from shifting from side to side.

·         Tail Cover -provides additional protection from moisture near tail bone.

  • Measuring Instructions - Stand your horse as square as possible, measure from the center of chest around side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If you horse ends up measuring between sizes always round up to the next size to ensure full coverage.
  • Washing Instructions - Machine wash with cold water – Gentle cycle with mild detergent. Air Dry or Machine Dry/No Heat
  • Horses Turned Outside without Shelter - Turnout Sheet and Blanket materials are waterproof and designed to keep your horse dry, however if your horse is turned out in a field without a run in shed or shelter during prolonged rain or heavy downpours your horse may still get wet especially in the neck and tail areas.
  • When using a blanket or sheet it is critical to monitor the fluctuating climate and temperatures even with a blanket that is waterproof and breathable. The wicking properties of a breathable blanket are designed to wick away normal body heat, when a blanket is too heavy the heat and moisture cannot be wicked away fast enough causing your horse to sweat. The temperature and the length of your horse’s coat will determine what weight of blanket you should use. For this reason, most people who choose to blanket horses have several articles of horse clothing that offer varying levels of warmth.
  • When selecting a blanket ensure to take into account your horse’s behavior, environment or other horses that may be turned out with your horse. The lower the denier number the less strength the material has. 420 Denier and 600 Denier are not recommended for horses that bite, chew or rub on blankets or for horses turned out with a companion or in a group. Always ensure your horse’s blanket is properly fitted and all straps are adjusted correctly, if a blanket is too tight or too loose, straps may break and material may tear. For younger horses or horses turned out with a companion or in groups, it is recommended to purchase 1200 Denier or 1680 Denier material as these are stronger materials and are less likely to tear. Certain types of fencing such as barbwire or foreign objects such as nails will easily tear any blanket no matter what the denier, always inspect the area in which your horse is kept to remove any nails or jagged fencing that may cause damage. There are no horse blankets that are guaranteed to not rip or tear.

is a good blanket for in the winter where it is going to be snowing?
courtney on Jun 12, 2015
Best Answer: Yes this will work in the snow but it is only 420 denier & 150g filling so it is not for hard use or is it very warm in super cold temps. I rarely blanket. I allow my horses to grow thick winter coats and they have shelters. I purchased this for my draft cross as an emergency blanket in an ice storm or the like. I have various weight blankets for my other horses depending upon their age & how thick their winter coats are. If your horse is easy on
blankets this will work for occasional use.

Is this a good product to use in the winter? If not someone put in the answers on other products that would work on this website because I'm almost a breaking point with finding a winter blanket and it's coming up fast. It's supposed to snow Saturday and my horse doesn't have a blanket because she ripped a giant hole please help! I live in north east.
A shopper on Oct 30, 2014
Best Answer: Hello - this blanket is VERY lightweight. You need something with 250 fill or higher for a good winter blanket. This one is 'just what it is', nicely made product but really more of a sheet than a blanket. NO really cheap blankets that work - Tough 1 good product, priced right but I would say near 80-100 dollars or more for the blanket you want. Also the higher the denier - 1000, 1200 1600 etc....makes the fabric stronger - so less likely to rip. Hope this helps. 420 600 are on the lower end of quality fabrics, but the 600 works and it makes the blanket affordabe.

Is this blanket the really think blanket that keeps the horse warm and not the thin covering ?
Al L on Mar 30, 2014
Best Answer: Its not that thick its nice because its not too heavy nor too light, it sits nicely on my horse. Although I put it on my horse once and the back leg strap broke so durability on my end was not good, but other than the strp breaking its a great blanket for windy nights,a rainy day, or to keep your horse dry.

Is it very heavy duty?
Paige W on Jan 1, 2015
Best Answer: No. as the manufacturer states 420 Denier...which would mean if you have a horse that is hard on blankets, ripping or otherwise destroying blankets you need to move up to a high Denier on to Ballistic Nylon. Something in the 1000 Denier or better range.

As for the gram fill, manufacturer states it is 150grams. Depending on where you live and the annual winter average temperature this may or may not work. I am in an area that we see temperatures get into the teens for a week or so, but have continuous rain. This gram weight works fine. However, if in a colder climate and your horse does not grow a decent coat, or is a breed with thin skin like a Thoroughbred, you might want to consider a higher gram fill, such as 250 grams. If you stall your horse at night, you might only need a stable sheet and no blanket during the day with temps over 35°F. There are several articles on line that you can find through your favorite search engine that will offer a wider base for your blanketing education. Best of luck.

I want a lightweight blanket for use at camp, horses will be on highlines without shelter. sometimes we camp later in the fall with temps down to 25 and all I have is rain sheet. they have plenty of hair . . .
or maybe I should just get a liner for under the rain sheet?
barb f on Jan 25, 2016
Best Answer: I use this 150g Tough ONe here in Montana, on my old (25) well haired horse, if it's mid to high 20's, and to keep him clean for his heavy blanket and colder weather. For the money, I see very little wrong with this blanket. Mind you, it will tear pretty easily.... my mare tore hers, but my old boy hasn't torn his yet.....( easy to stitch up)

I don't know horse size?
A shopper on Dec 10, 2016
Best Answer: Stand your horse as square as possible. Measure from the center of the chest along the side of the body to the point of the horse's hindquarters just before the tail. If your horse ends up measuring between sizes, choose the one closest to your measurement unless your horse is particularly big-bodied.
Measuring is usually best done with a helper and a soft or cloth measuring tape. Take the measurement twice to be sure.

I have a 61.2 hand horse the blanket she has on now is 80" and it is a bit small, will a 84" be to big and I was looking for a waterproof with a belly strap blanket. She is my first horse, and the owner before me stalled her most of the time, now she is in a pasture,do I really need a blanket for her?
A shopper on Dec 16, 2014
Best Answer: We have a 17 hand thoroughbred which equals out to be 68 inches and I bought a size 84 for him and it's plenty big for him. I'm thinking you made a mistake with the hands that you put down and maybe you have a 16.2 hand horse or even a 15.3 hand as each hand equals 4 inches so am thinking an 84 might be a little bit big. Unless he's on the bulkier side as our thoroughbred is not. And depending on how cold it is and how good of a shelter you have you may or may not need to blanket him. If he has a good winter coat...nice and thick and you have a good shelter you may not need to blanket him. If he shivers and/or doesn't have a thick coat and/or you don't have very good shelter you will definitely want to blanket him. As I'm not sure where you live or what the temperature is like it's hard for me to say. If it gets down to 10 or below the above statements I made are pretty accurate. Hope this helps.

I am looking for a waterproof turnout blanket for snow, rain and ice for a belgian. what would you recommend?
A shopper on Nov 9, 2014
Best Answer: if you are looking for good blanket for this type of weather, you need 300+ fill or better. This one won't do it. The higher the Denier, the tighter the fabric, the warmer it is also. Look for Turnouts, those are waterproof not stable blankets/sheets. This particular blanket is a little more than a sheet - by the way, fill only 150.

Are u doing any specials for cyber Monday?
Donny W on Nov 29, 2014
Best Answer: Interesting how they pass these posts on. :) If they do offer sale prices they will change on Monday - sometimes they say all items on sale, but are not when you get there :) My experience with them their products are good and are fairly priced to begin with..........but once you buy you will get coupon for $$$ off the next purchase, it that item qualifies. Some do not as they are reduced so much already. Happy I am just a customer
