This as my first experience wearing a helmet and I was pleasantly surprised. It fit great, lightweight and I felt safe.

Perfect for trail riding
I'm glad I chose this helmet for trail riding. It fits securely and feels comfortable. Also looks good (for a helmet).

Looks good but fit is an issue
I like the look. However, my head size is at the outer limit of a large. (23 1/2 ) and they didn't offer an xlarge, so I crossed my fingers and ordered. I did get it to fit but it is pretty tight. The biggest problem is the rivets that attach the harness stick out quite a ways and hit me near my temple. Not good. Even if the fit wasn't so snug these would be uncomfortable. A design flaw in my opinion. I had to tap them into the styrofoam with a hammer to be able to wear it at all, probably not recommended, but now I have a helmet I can wear.

On line is terrible, my experience
I started with Stateline and got a child's size riding helmet. I went to Horse.com and got an undersized helmet, unless every hat I own is 1/2 inch smaller than their labels. It also had a design that I was not noticing on line. I lost $6.00 for original shipping, $ 20.00 for the return. I will never order on line again, nor will I recommend that anyone who asks do it either

Nice looking but size was a ptoblem
I like the look of this helmet. My problem was that my head size is exactly between a medium and large. I have a Troxel with the size dial and have to dial down quite a bit. Since this one uses padding to adjust, I thought the med. would be better so I wouldn't have to add excessive padding - MISTAKE. I can barely squeeze it onto my head without any padding. It seems narrower than other Troxels I've tried. Anyway, now I need to exchange it. Rats.

Safe and stylish helmet
I bought this helmet to replace my dinged helmet after a fall that connected with a rock. So far, this helmet has exceeded my expectations. I love the vented feature and the visor (much nicer than the old helmet). I also feel that this helmet is more comfortable and less bulky than other helmets that I've used. The fit is true to the size chart and it is adjustable (within reason). I have the tan one and love it. The design and overall look are just what I was looking for. Should I need another helmet, this will be my go to. On an additional note, my GoPro attaches just as easily to this helmet as the others, even with the visor.

Excellent trail riding helmet
Helmet fits well, is light weight, and reasonably priced. I like the style also.

Looks good
Like the look however measured my head like it says but it's tight. Hopefully it will loosen as I wear it awhile

Nice looking
I've had an older Dakota helmet for many years and was shocked when I checked the manufacture date. I don't know why I waited to long to update my helmet. The Dakota has maintained some of the features of the previous model - the leather strap and conchos just above the brim but it no longer has the leather on the harness which used to be a nice touch. There is less venting than my older model but they have added the netting to hopefully deter bugs from feasting on your scalp. Not sure it will help with the gnats though which could easily pass through the size of holes in the netting. Time will tell. Over all it looks nice and is comfortable.

Which of the colors on the Troxel Dakota helmet is "trail dust"--the dark or the light?
A shopper on May 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It's the light tan helmet. I like it better than the dark ones for our hot summers.
You sent me the chart to find out what size helmet I need & I measured 22-1/2" which says size 7-1/8 but your helmets come in Small, medium & large. What size do I order? Thanks
Dorothy K on Sep 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: According to the sizing chart you would need a medium.

Does this helmet have a dial system in the back to tighten?
A shopper on Feb 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, it doesn't have the dial system but is adjustable. I didn't like the bulk of the dial, so this helmet works great for me. Very comfortable.
What is the weight of the Dakota Troxel helmet?
A shopper on Jun 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I can't comment on the specificed because we returned this helmet -- it wasn't big enough for my husband's XL, 7 3/4 head. At that time Troxel did not have an XL trail helmet, only a schooling one. We ended up buying a Tipperary, which is a great fit and lighter than my Troxel Sierra.
Is there a dial at the back of helmet?
A shopper on Jul 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, no dial. It has Troxel's Sure-Fit system: elastic straps that self-adjust to the size & shape of the rider's head.
where on your head do you measure?
Linda W on Oct 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Make sure to measure the circumference of your head around your forehead. that will give you the size and then you can figure where it fits in with small medium and large.
Is the visor attached to the helmet or removable?
A shopper on Jun 12, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The helmet visor is attached.
How does this fit versus the intrepid?
A shopper on May 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The fit and sizing are the same, the items have different styles and features.
