Best Answer: the reins go in the circles at the bottom and the headstall attaches at the curve off of the rope noseband. Love this for horses that don't need heavy control.
I'm sorry I put where u put the headstall not the reins.. The reins attach to the circles. Also I would do some research on hackamores, like proper placement and use.
The reins attach to the lower circles of the hackamore. If you don't know how to use a hackamore, be advised that you can break a horses jaw if used incorrectly.
The reins attach at the rings at the bottom of the hackamore. Make sure they attach behind the slobber bar that connects the two rings.
The reins go on the metal part that looks like an U
Attach each end of the rein on each ring.
I have a barrel horse in training that doesn't like bits. Has anyone used this on a barrel horse? Does it work well?
Best Answer: I am also training my barrel horse and she hates bits/has some teeth issues. She responds so well with this and still turns the barrels better than she did before. She now doesn't fight with her head and has les behavior issues! It really depends on how your horse works in it but it is a great hackamore to try. The noseband on this one is very stiff and hard so I wrapped it with vet wrap.
It works wonderful!! I use it on every horse to break them to ride and then see what kind of bit they like. If they don't care for any certain bit and they are not going to be shown WP or EP then I keep them in this hack. It works great to teach a older horse to "whoa" as well. Any new horse I get in to train they all get this first to teach them to stop. Works wonders!!
I've used this on my upcoming four year old barrel horse as a transition from an o-ring snaffle. While he would respond halfway well to a bit, the hackmore has been absolutely perfect in getting the kind of rate and turns I need on the pattern. It was a very easy adjustment and I am more than happy with the way he rides in it.
yes i have a barrel gelding that can get hard on the bit when he gets excited this has enough pick up that he rates well and has enough give to allow ample room to bend and flex. It has a decent amount of stop if your horse knows what whoa means
I start all my barrel horses out on this. Most do great, occasionally I have a horse that needs more bite, but for the most part this is my bit of choice. I do start all my horses out being bosal trained, so they are used to nose pressure.
I like them for trail riding in but I wouldn't run my barrel horse in this type of hackamore because they aren't very sturdy and cheaply made. Basically you get what you pay for but I like them for a cheap trail riding bit.
Little S hacks have become very popular for barrel racing and are a good first hackamore, as they are fairly mild, acting similar to a side-pull.
Yes my daughter uses this to run her barrel horse. It also doesn't like the bit. It gives her just the right amount of control.
Yes! Between my sister and I we have 3 horses that use them they're way better than the old style hack that flips up.
My horse is not a barrel horse, but it works well on her. I changed the noseband, however.
Oh and wrap the nose band with vet wrap to protect their nose.

Best Answer: No, it holds on the hackamore and keeps it from slipping around. You don't to have to jack it up tight I do 2 fingers in between the chain and the horses chin as a good reference point.
No, and you don't want it to detach. It is 1/2 of what makes the hackamore work; there is no control without it.

Hello, your bridle/head stall would attach at the top of the shank of the "s" with the rope nose band facing out. Then your reins would attach to the bottom of the shank of the "s"
the headstall simply goes on the first s curve behind the noise band. the arch between the noise band and the chin strap. it will balance its self no worries.
The ring part that goes up u put ur headtstall there the part that goes near his cheeck
Where the rope nose ends and the metal curves down, is where you attach your head stall
You connect it at the curved part on the shank.
What hackamore will fit a Percheron?

Best Answer: This hackmore would be too small, I would use a side pull, or a Dr.cook cross under. A lot of hackamores don't fit draft breeds.
Probably not. It is sized for average horses approximately 800-1100 lbs.
If the horse has a large muzzle it will not fit.
What is the length of the rope on the nose band? Is it 11" or 12 1/4"?
