have one and need another one
SANDRA S on Oct 17, 2017
I have a fiesty little arab who doesn't like bits. I have been trail riding here in a rope halter and she does ok but I don't have faith in the stopping power of the halter. Hoping this short shanked hack does the trick and my kids can feel confident riding her as well now.

We have a paint that just goes bonkers with any bit in her mouth. Been using a similar Hackamore on her for about a year now, and she behaves much better. Our old one finally broke (while riding on the trail. That was a bit interesting.)

I thought this would be a good choice for my Quarab cowpony, but it is too big for him.
justmesuzanne on Oct 20, 2014
I don't own a hackamore, and a new rescue horse I acquired apparently was ridden in one. Since I don't know how it was going to go, I didn't want to spend a lot on something I could possibly end up not using.

couldn't find this in town.

I like these hackamores, they are easy on the horse and very en-expensive.

This is a nice hackamore for horses and ponies that do not need a lot of pressure.

I have a 6 year old RM gelding is anxious and unruly at mounting( backs up fast or takes off forward with no woaha!) settles after 20 minutes of riding. Has a beautiful gait,( although fast) I have only had him shortly( 3 months) Was bucking on mount at 1st. I can't ride him.(paying someone to ride) And they have put him in a very severe bit( double chain, long shanks) I understand the need to be safe and under control ( at 1st mounting you are not, even in severe bit) I am thinking maybe not bit? Maybe a hack and he might relax more? Does this hack give good control and yet get a quick response if needed? ( like on mounting?) Right now , he is a bullet outta a gun, but when he relaxes, he is awesome and fearless!

BEST ANSWER: We strongly suggest that you contact a local trainer that is experienced with problem horses. We also suggest contacting your vet to do a full exam to make sure your gelding's problems are not pain related.
Does it come in different colors?
A shopper on Feb 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We only offer this item in one color. However the leather color may vary from light brown to light tan.
This hackamore works well on my quarter horse mare, but the sides of the headstall run just below and too close to her eyes, and even more so when I pull back on the reins. I've tried lengthening the hackamore nose-band so the it sits lower (vertically, not horizontally down her face), but the sides of the headstall are still too close to her eyes. Any suggestions or how to fix this? I'm using a western browband headstall with a throatlatch.
Joanne L on Sep 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: i would try lowering the browband closer to the horses eye and have the throatlatch pretty snug to better hold the headstall in place. also your chin strap may be too loose and making too much play when you pull the reins.
Since it is a hackamore you can snug-up the chin strap without causing discomfort to the horse.
Do you think this could be adjusted to fit up to 12" for the nose?
Cindy B on May 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: On smallest adjustment it measures 23". On largest it measures 26". I took a worn out one and took the side leather straps off the chain curb and tied the chain straight to the metal shanks and it fit a 9 or 10 hand pony.
How long are the shanks?
Cindy B on May 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi Cindy, mine is out in the barn but off the top of my head I'd say about 3 inches or so. They are the shortest I have come across. Its a nice mild hackamore my mare does really well in it.
Are the shanks on this stainless steel, or are they something else?
Rachel W on Dec 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I cannot say for sure what metal it is because I cannot find any engraving on it saying what it is. However, I have had mine for some time now and the metal has not discolored, stained, rusted, bent or shown any other undesirable characteristics. In fact, it still looks quite classy on my horse. The metal is heavy and quite substantial like good bits I also have. I like that the noseband can be adjusted in addition to any adjustments I can make on the headstall to which I attached it. That adjustment helped me to get it in the proper position on my horse for his comfort and my adequate control.
Which English hackamore bridle will this go best with?
Nikki C on Dec 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Light leather hack that can be easily stained to match any bridle
Is it good for English also?
A shopper on Aug 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The answer is yes and no. I ride dressage and I use it on my mare. She has a tooth issue and cannot have a bit in her mouth. This hackamore works great, and we both love it. However, it is not legal for showing in dressage. I don't think it is legal for English (hunt seat) either. It may be legal for Jumpers, (I think other hackamores are). However, it is not legal in Hunters. So, if you want it for pleasure riding English, yes. I find that I can effectively ride dressage with it. If you want to show your horse in it, the answer is no.
does this come in a darker brown?
does this only come one color of leather?
randy on Apr 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately this item only comes in this light colored leather.
I have a problem with it rolling around the nose any suggestions?
Murphy on Jul 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: possible solutions. First make sure it fits tight enought on the nose and above the soft nostral tissue. Also use winder straps on the sides, we attach ours with bit hangers onto the alters. Sometimes I have had to bend the nose band to shape it better for a smaller nose horse. Oil it heavy if you don't mind it getting darker and maybe strap it on to a coffee can or something smaller if your horse is really small to get it to shape to the nose better. Good luck!
