This Bit has changed my horses life. I have a high strung off track thoroughbred, and she always was hot and anxious on the trail, I could never understand why. She only had anxiety when I rode her. After talking with my trainer about what to do for my horses anxiety, she recommended this Bit because it allows the horses tongue to come up to the roof of their mouth, so they can swallow(seems silly to me) but, it worked. My horse no longer has anxiety when I ride and is calm, Horse approved!

My horse has a large mouth. What size is this bit?
A shopper on Aug 19, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Mouth: 5" curved, hinged

Cheeks: 5 1/2"

Shank: 5 1/2" Short Shanks with SS Dots
Would this be a good bit for a child just learning to ride to use? Can it be used with two hands or is it meant to be just for neck reining?
A shopper on Aug 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: In my opinion any bit with a port should only be used by quiet, gentle hands, which is not a typical beginner rider. This bit is a mild bit in the hands of an experienced rider. It swivels so meant to accommodate direct reining,ie 2 hands. That said, the training level & reaponsivenss of the horse and type of riding are also important to consider in chosing the right bit. It’s important that it is something the horse will respond to so a beginner rider isn’t in danger either.
It’s a good style of bit for most horses and riders depending on who, how used and the purpose...
Good luck 🙂
iwas wondering is bit a split bit also?
A shopper on Jun 3, 2014
BEST ANSWER: If you mean is it broken under the center roller,it is not. It is one solid piece, but the cheeks swivel for good communication and lightness. This bit is well made and relieves tongue pressure. My Appy responded to it very well.
is this a correction bit?
david f on Jul 29, 2014
BEST ANSWER: You could consider it to be a mild correction bit in the sense that it is a first step up from a snaffle bit. It has short shanks so as to not apply too much pressure due to heavy hands. It moves well in the joints so that light hand movement sends the message to your horses mouth and the low port provides relief of pressure on the tongue. My 9 yr. old Appy responded to it very well. I moved to this because the joint in the snaffle hit the roof of his mouth and he was always head tossing. This bit stopped the head tossing.Hope this helps you.
I'm looking for a very mild bit with short shank. My husband is very heavy handed and trainer suggested very mild bit. Horse is very broke. What do you suggest ?
Angela D on Dec 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If he doesn't feel confident using a D ring snaffle, I'd suggest the Western SS Low Port Futurity Bit. I use them on my young Rockies. It allows separate input to each side of their mouth and a little more whoa when needed. Still it's a very mild bit.
Is this show legal?
A shopper on Jul 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I ride a gaited Rocky Mountain Horse and a Paint. It's legal for gaited shows. I'm pretty certain it's ok for AQHA and 4H too. Nice bit. I use it on both the Rocky and my Paint for trail, training, parade, etc.
What is the port height on this bit?
A shopper on Sep 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Mouth: 5" curved, hinged

Cheeks: 5 1/2"

Shank: 5 1/2" Short Shanks with SS Dots
Does this need a chin strap while using?
A shopper on Nov 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but not too tight. Should have some travel before bit is engaged.
Does this bit come in 5 1/2? I need this size for my horse
