Prescription items are NON-RETURNABLE and NON REFUNDABLE Thyro L Powder Levothyroxine is a synthetic thyroid hormone. It usually needs to be given for the life of the horse when the horse is not producing enough thyroid hormone and to correct conditions associated with hypothyroidism. Dose and Administration: Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian. Your veterinarian may monitor thyroid hormone levels in the blood every 2-4 weeks while adjusting the dose. If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give 2 doses at once. This medication should only be given to the horse for whom it was prescribed. Possible Side Effects: None if given at the correct dosage. If your horse has any abnormal signs, consult your veterinarian. If your horse experiences an allergic reaction to the medication, signs may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma. If you observe any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately. Precautions: Differences exist between brands. Do not change brands if possible. If there is a need to change, your veterinarian may need to recheck thyroid hormone levels and adjust dose if indicated. Not for use in horses hypersensitive (allergic) to levothyroxine or any components in the product. Use with extreme caution in older or debilitated horses, or those with heart disease, high blood pressure, Addison's disease (hypoadrenocorticism), or diabetes. Do not use in horses with hyperthyroidism, a condition in which the body produces too much thyroid hormone. The safety of this medication in pregnant and lactating horses has not been determined. Consult with your veterinarian regarding the laboratory testing necessary prior to and during treatment with levothyroxine. Drug, Food, and Test Interactions: Notify your veterinarian of any other medications, including vitamins and supplements, your horse is taking while your horse is receiving levothyroxine. This medication increases the effects of epinephrine, norepinephrine, and warfarin. It may decrease the effect of digoxin. It may increase insulin needs in diabetic horses. Estrogens may increase the need for thyroxine. Levothyroxine can alter the results of many laboratory tests. Tell your veterinarian your horse is on levothyroxine before any tests are performed. Withdrawal Times: Consult your veterinarian and event officials before using levothyroxine or any other medication in a performance horse. Not for use in horses intended for food. Signs of Toxicity/Overdose: With chronic overdosing (taking a slightly higher dose over a long period of time), expect to see signs of hyperthyroidism such as an increase in drinking, urinating, eating, and activity; weight loss; seeking cool areas; increased heart rate; restlessness; and behavior changes. If you know or suspect your horse has had an overdose, or if you observe any of these signs in your horse, contact your veterinarian immediately. Natural or synthetic gestagen therapy may exacerbate existing low-grade or "smoldering" uterine inflammation into a fulminating uterine infection in some instances. Precautions Various synthetic progestins, including altrenogest, when administered to rats during the embryogenic stage of pregnancy at doses manyfold greater than the recommended equine dose caused fetal anomalies, specifically masculinization of the female genitalia. Dosage and Administration While wearing protective gloves, remove shipping cap and seal; replace with enclosed plastic dispensing cap. Remove cover from bottle dispensing tip and connect luer lock syringe (without needle). Draw out appropriate volume of Regu-Mate (R) solution. (Note: Do not remove syringe while bottle is inverted as spillage may result.) Detach syringe and administer solution orally at the rate of 1 mL per 110 pounds body weight (0.044 mg/kg) once daily for 15 consecutive days. Administer solution directly on the base of the mare's tongue or on the mare's usual grain ration. Replace cover on bottle dispensing tip to prevent leakage. Excessive use of a syringe may cause the syringe to stick; therefore, replace syringe as necessary. Keep this and all medication out of the reach of children. Prescription items are NON-RETURNABLE and NON REFUNDABLE Equioxx Tablet A non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in horses. Description: EQUIOXX (firocoxib) belongs to the coxib class of non-narcotic, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). Firocoxib is a white crystalline compound described chemically as 3- (cyclopropylmethoxy)-4-(4-(methylsulfonyl)phenyl)-5, 5-dimethylfuranone. The empirical formula is C17H2O5S, and the molecular weight is 336.4 g/mol. The structural formula is shown to the right. Indications: EQUIOXX is indicated for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in horses. Dosage and Administration: EQUIOXX Tablets can be used at a dosage of 0.045 mg/lb (0.1 mg/kg) body weight for up to an additional 9 days of treatment. Contraindications: Horses with hypersensitivity to firocoxib should not receive EQUIOXX. Warnings: EQUIOXX Tablets are for oral use in horses only. Keep EQUIOXX Tablets out of the reach of dogs and other pets in a secured location in order to prevent accidental ingestion or overdose. Human Warnings: Not for use in humans. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children. Consult a physician in case of accidental human exposure or ingestion. Precautions: Horses should undergo a thorough history and physical examination before initiation of NSAID therapy. Appropriate laboratory tests should be conducted to establish hematological and serum biochemical baseline data before and periodically during administration of any NSAID. Clients should be advised to observe for signs of potential drug toxicity and be given a Client Information Sheet with each prescription. Treatment with EQUIOXX should be terminated if signs such as inappetance, colic, abnormal feces, or lethargy are observed. As a class, cyclooxygenase inhibitory NSAIDs may be associated with gastrointestinal, renal, and hepatic toxicity. Sensitivity to drug-associated adverse events varies with the individual patient. Horses that have experienced adverse reactions from one NSAID may experience adverse reactions from another NSAID. Patients at greatest risk for adverse events are those that are dehydrated, on diuretic therapy, or those with existing renal, cardiovascular, and/or hepatic dysfunction. Concurrent administration of potentially nephrotoxic drugs should be carefully approached or avoided. NSAIDs may inhibit the prostaglandins that maintain normal homeostatic function. Such anti-prostaglandin effects may result in clinically significant disease in patients with underlying or pre-existing disease that has not been previously diagnosed. Since many NSAIDs possess the potential to produce gastrointestinal ulcerations and/or gastrointestinal perforation, concomitant use of EQUIOXX with other anti-inflammatory drugs, such as NSAIDs or corticosteroids, should be avoided. The concomitant use of protein bound drugs with EQUIOXX has not been studied in horses. The influence of concomitant drugs that may inhibit the metabolism of EQUIOXX has not been evaluated. Drug compatibility should be monitored in patients requiring adjunctive therapy. The safe use of EQUIOXX in horses less than one year of age, horses used for breeding, or in pregnant or lactating mares has not been evaluated. Consider appropriate washout times when switching from one NSAID to another NSAID or corticosteroid. Adverse Reactions: The safety and effectiveness of EQUIOXX Tablets was supported by a relative bioavailability study comparing EQUIOXX Tablets to the EQUIOXX Oral Paste (See Clinical Pharmacology section), in addition to pharmacovigilance information, and target animal safety data for existing firocoxib-containing products in horses. The effectiveness of EQUIOXX Injection was established in a biocomparability study demonstrating that EQUIOXX Oral Paste is bioequivalent to EQUIOXX Injection. Thus additional studies were not performed to support the effectiveness of EQUIOXX Injection or Tablets, nor were additional studies conducted to support safety of EQUIOXX Tablets. The safety of EQUIOXX Injection was established through a target animal safety study of EQUIOXX Injection administered IV followed by EQUIOXX Oral Paste In controlled field studies, 127 horses (ages 3 to 37 years) were evaluated for safety when given EQUIOXX Oral Paste at a dose of 0.045 mg/lb (0.1 mg/kg) orally once daily for up to 14 days. The following adverse reactions were observed. Horses may have experienced more than one of the observed adverse reactions during the study. Clinical Pharmacology Phenylbutazone was first synthesized in 1948 and introduced into human medicine in 1949. Kuzell (1), (2), (3), Payne (4), Fleming (5) and Denko (6) demonstrated the clinical effectiveness of phenylbutazone in gout, gouty arthritis, acute arthritis, acute rheumatism and various other rheumatoid disorders in humans. Fabre (7), Domenjoz (8), Wilhelmi (9) and Yourish (10) have established the anti-rheumatic and anti-inflammatory activity of phenylbutazone. It is entirely unrelated to the steroid hormones. Toxicity of phenylbutazone has been investigated in rats and mice (11) and dogs (12). Phenylbutazone has been used by Camberos (13) in thoroughbred horses. Favorable results were reported in cases of traumatism, muscle rupture, strains and inflammations of the third phalanx. Results were not as favorable in the period treatment of osteoarthritis of the stifle and hip, arthrosis of the trapezious muscles and general arthritis. Sutter (14) reported a favorable response in chronic equine arthritis of long duration, fair results in severely bruised mare and poor results in two cases where the condition was limited to the third phalanx. Prescription items are NON-RETURNABLE and NON REFUNDABLE ReBalance Antiprotozoal Oral Suspension ReBalance (R) Antiprotozoal Oral Suspension is supplied in 946.4 mL (1 quart) bottles. Each mL of ReBalance (R) Antiprotozoal Oral Suspension contains 250 mg sulfadiazine (as the sodium salt) and 12.5 mg pyrimethamine. Indications ReBalance (R) Antiprotozoal Oral Suspension is indicated for the treatment of horses with equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) caused by Sarcocystis neurona . Dosage and Administration ReBalance (R) Antiprotozoal Oral Suspension is to be administered at a dose of 20 mg/kg sulfadiazine and 1 mg/kg pyrimethamine daily or 4 mL of ReBalance (R) Antiprotozoal Oral Suspension per 110 lb (50 kg) of body weight once per day. The duration of treatment is dependent upon clinical response, but the usual treatment regimen ranges from 90 to 270 days. Administer orally by suitable dosing syringe at least one hour prior to feeding with hay or grain. Insert nozzle of syringe through the interdental space and deposit the dose on the back of the tongue by depressing the plunger. Shake well before each use. Contraindications The use of ReBalance (R) Antiprotozoal Oral Suspension is contraindicated in horses with known hypersensitivity to sulfonamide drugs or pyrimethamine. Warnings For use in horses only. Do not use in horses intended for human consumption. Not for human use. Keep out of reach of children. Precautions Prior to treatment with ReBalance (R) Antiprotozoal Oral Suspension , EPM should be distinguished from other diseases that may cause ataxia in horses. Injuries or lameness may also complicate the evaluation of an animal with EPM. In most instances, ataxia due to EPM is asymmetrical and affects the front and/or the hind limbs. Treatment may cause generalized bone marrow suppression, anemia, leukopenia, neutropenia and thrombocytopenia. A complete blood count (CBC) should be performed monthly to monitor horses for development of these conditions. The administration of the drug may need to be discontinued and/or treatments for bone marrow suppression initiated. Worsened neurologic deficits (treatment crisis) may be observed during a period beginning with the first few days of treatment with ReBalance (R) Antiprotozoal Oral Suspension and ranging out to 5 weeks. This neurologic deficit exacerbation may be the result of an inflammatory reaction to the dying parasites in the CNS tissue. The safe use of ReBalance (R) Antiprotozoal Oral Suspension in horses used for breeding purposes, during pregnancy, or in lactating mares has not been evaluated. The safety of ReBalance (R) Antiprotozoal Oral Suspension with concomitant therapies in horses has not been evaluated. Adverse Reactions Seventy-five horses (37 horses in the 1X group; 38 horses in the 2X group) that were treated with test article for at least 90 days were evaluated for adverse reactions. Bone marrow suppression: Anemia: ReBalance (R) Antiprotozoal Oral Suspension administration caused overall anemia (classification of anemia based on RBC, Hgb, and PCV/HCT values) in 12% of the observations in the 1X group and 21% of the observations in the 2X group. In the 1X group, anemia was noted in 22%, leukopenia in 19%, neutropenia in 5%, and thrombocytopenia in 3% of the cases. In the 2X group, anemia was noted in 58%, leukopenia in 55%, neutropenia in 29% and thrombocytopenia in 5% of the cases. The incidence of bone marrow suppression in the 2X treatment group was two or more times that of the 1X group and the degree of suppression was more serious (mild to severe vs. mild to moderate). Because of these blood dyscrasias, test article was interrupted over four times more often in horses treated at the 2X dosage than those treated at 1X, although both groups were off treatment for about the same amount of time (approximately 20% of the treatment period). In some instances of bone marrow suppression, diet was supplemented with folinic acid. GI: Anorexia was observed in two horses in the 1X group and one horse in the 2X group. One horse in the 1X group and one horse in the 2X group were observed to be off feed. Observations of anorexia and decreased appetite occurred predominantly during the first 90 days of the treatment period. Observations of anorexia/decreased appetite in two of the above-referenced cases were due to unrelated illnesses. Loose stools were observed in three horses in the 1X group and five in the 2X group. The majority of these observations occurred in the first thirty days of treatment. Diarrhea was observed in one horse in the 2X group on Day 4 of the study. The appearance of loose stool/diarrhea observations was self-limiting and resolved without treatment or discontinuation of test article. Brief, mild colic was observed in three cases (one in the 1X group and two in the 2X group). Colic was treated conservatively or not at all and resolved without sequelae. Integument: Urticaria was observed in one horse in the 1X group and two horses in the 2X group. One horse was treated topically, two were untreated. All cases resolved without sequelae. Treatment crisis (marked worsening of the neurological condition) was reported in one horse in the 1X treatment group. Depression/lethargy was observed infrequently, occurred during the early part of the study in both groups and was primarily associated with the EPM syndrome. In one case, depression was associated with acute onset of a liver disorder. Seizure: One horse in the 1X treatment group suffered from seizures. Seizure activity may be associated with CNS damage from EPM. Storage Store at controlled room temperature 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F). Protect from freezing. « Read less

It has been used successfully for the following: to calm fractious horses, to provide relief from abdominal pain, to facilitate bronchoscopy, bronchoalveolar lavage, nasogastric intubation, nonreproductive rectal palpations, suturing of skin lacerations, and castrations. Additionally, an approved, local infiltration anesthetic is indicated for castration. Dosage: Recommended dosages only. Always follow the directions for dosing and administration from your veterinarian. Storage Conditions: Store at controlled room temperature 15°-30°C (59°-86°F) in the absence of light. Caution: Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. Dormosedan (R) should not be used in horses with pre-existing AV or SA block, with severe coronary insufficiency, cerebrovascular disease, respiratory disease, or chronic renal failure. Intravenous potentiated sulfonamides should not be used in anesthetized or sedated horses as potentially fatal dysrhythmias may occur. Information on the possible effects of detomidine hydrochloride in breeding horses is limited to uncontrolled clinical reports; therefore, this drug is not recommended for use in breeding animals. Side Effects: Horses treated with Dormosedan (R) exhibit hypertension. Bradycardia routinely occurs 1 minute after injection. The relationship between hypertension and bradycardia is consistent with an adaptive baroreceptor response to the increased pressure and inconsistent with a primary drug-induced bradycardia. Piloerection, sweating, salivation, and slight muscle tremors are frequently seen after administration. Partial transient penis prolapse may be seen. Partial AV and SA blocks may occur with decreased heart and respiratory rates. Urination typically occurs during recovery at about 45-60 minutes posttreatment, depending on dosage. Incoordination or staggering is usually seen only during the first 3-5 minutes after injection, until animals have secured a firm footing. Because of continued lowering of the head during sedation, mucus discharges from the nose and, occasionally, edema of the head and face may be seen. Holding the head in a slightly elevated position generally prevents these effects. Human Warning: Care should be taken to assure that detomidine hydrochloride is not inadvertently ingested as safety studies have indicated that the drug is well absorbed when administered orally. Standard ocular irritation tests in rabbits using the proposed market formulation have shown detomidine hydrochloride to be nonirritating to eyes. Primary dermal irritation tests in guinea pigs using up to 5 times the proposed market concentration of detomidine hydrochloride on intact and abraded skin have demonstrated that the drug is nonirritating to skin and is apparently poorly absorbed dermally. However, in accordance with prudent clinical procedures, exposure of eyes or skin should be avoided and affected areas should be washed immediately if exposure does occur. As with all injectable drugs causing profound physiological effects, routine precautions should be employed by practitioners when handling and using loaded syringes to prevent accidental self-injection. Care should be taken to administer Xylazine HCl Injection (xylazine) in the heavy muscles of the croup or shoulder. Injections given subcutaneously, intraperitoneally or into fat deposits will give unpredictable results. Hyperthermic reactions may occur, especially if the subject is in a highly excited state when the drug is administered. Hosing the head and entire body with cold water has usually proven to be an effective deterrent. The safety of Xylazine HCl Injection (xylazine) has not been demonstrated in pregnant Cervidae. Avoid use during the breeding season. Cervidae should be observed closely until all of the sedative effects of Xylazine HCl Injection (xylazine) are gone.
