 Tom Thumb Snaffle is the most basic shanked type snaffle bit and serves as an excellent transition bit from a ring snaffle to a longer shanked bit, or curb bit.  This bit is excellent for riding and working with young horses.  The copper mouthpiece creates a wet soft mouth.  The loose cheeks move independently allowing for more lateral flexibility.  This bit uses a small amount of curb pressure or leverage.
