it's great for the gates
Ralph M on Mar 28, 2017
already have one of these and it is so easy and makes pipe gates so easy to open and close
CHERYL D on Mar 20, 2016
Love these locks. I have a 16' gate and I can drive my tractor thru the gate, then from the end, swing the gate closed and it slides right into the latch and closes before the horses run out. You know, the grass is always greener on the other side of the gate, but this latch keeps them on my side of the gate.

I got tired of having to wrap the gate chains around the posts every time I went in and out. These snap the gate closed easily. I had to reset the gates that did not have the 2 to 2-1/2 inch spacing between the gate and post but these latches are worth the effort. The price is high, so I waited till I could get them at 25% off.

How much space is needed between the gate and the post?

Can it be mounted on a round steel post?
A shopper on May 30, 2015
Best Answer: I have 2.5 inches between mine.
I also have mine mounted to round posts. The posts are 2 3/4 outside diameter. I drill the four mounting holes in a 8 inch piece of 4 inch purlin. I plug welded 3/8 X 1 inch bolts and cut the heads off. Then I welded this mounting plate to the 2 3/4 pipe. I is actually a press fit so it made aligning and welding a breeze.
I have this done on two of my gates and they work like a charm. I have two more to do.
I have pictures of these if they will allow upload.

Good luck.

What size (pipe diameter) does this latch fit? I have 2" gates.
greg s on Nov 17, 2014
Best Answer: Yes, it should fit 2" diameter panel. It says that in the description and there is a sleeve you can insert if it is too large. Remember to put the piece that goes on the gate so it straddles a horizontal pipe because if you put in on the vertical only, the whole unit will rotate if a horse rubs on the gate or pushes the gate. The gate can then come open. It shows it in the picture being on only the vertical. Love this latch tho. Wonderful for one hand or opening from horseback.

Does this latch have a zinc/galvanized finish or is it painted?
RJ H on Dec 18, 2015
Best Answer: It's galvanized. Good latch. Make sure you mount it so the part that is on the gate straddles a horiziontal cross bar, other wise the latch can rotate around the vertical bar.
