Product Summary:

Kensington Freedom Feeder Trailer/Mini Net

The goal of Freedom Feeder is for every horse to have high-fiber, low-calorie forage available 24/7. Using Freedom Feeders is a way to “free” us from meal routines and help our horses live happier, healthier, and more natural lives. Freedom Feeders may also eliminate anxiety around meal time and reduce the likelihood of colic and such behavioral issues as weaving, or pacing. The Trailer/Mini Net is tailored to be used either while trailering or for daily use with miniature horses, goats, sheep, or calves.

Features:

  • Use for trailers, mini horses, or goats
  • Holds 13 lb. of forage hay
  • Comes with carabiner for hanging
  • Made in the USA
Note: Manufacturer recommends using net with 1.5" mesh opening, optimal to mimic grazing and slow consumption, before transitioning to net with 1" holes, designed for insulin-resistant or smaller grazing animals. The 2" mesh opening is suggested for aggressive eaters and larger horses, and may require going down to a smaller mesh size once the horse is transitioned.

my arabian seems to be addicted to it !
my first impression of the net was that it is so delicate and soft. I have now used it for 3 weeks,in the stall, trailer and on the picket post for camping. my horse was accustomed to a different brand 2 inch slow net and very quickly adjusted to the 1 inch net. Having said that, please note that I offered the freedom feeder mini net when he was not hungry, so he could take his time and figure it out without becoming frustrated . I also left a loose flake of hay on the ground , but he chose the net . At camp I hung his 2 inch net full of hay , I also hung the mini net above that, he used the 2 inch net first then had the pleasure of the mini net which lasted him through the night, in the morning he was very content with some hay left in the mini net. I really liked this arrangement ,it worked very well ! At home in his stall [ he is free to go in and out as he chooses ] the always filled net keeps him happily occupied ! The net is very strong and soft, it washes very well !

Great slow feeder
I bought these slow feeder nets for my geldings who get bored when there is not enough pasture to keep them busy. When they get bored they get naughty! I can fit enough hay in the nets to keep the horses entertained most of the day -- without wasting hay or ending up with fat horses. These are a great, cost-effective, convenient way to slow-feed hay. They are surprisingly durable (except for the weak carabiner clips they come with broke within days) and the horses actually seem to enjoy eating from them. I definitely recommend this slow feeder.

Wonderful hay net!
Perfect for one horse as a trailer snack, or medium to small feeding.....am still using one I bought years ago though it is looking its age now. Which is why I bought another. It IS overpriced, in my opinion.Very soft to the horse's lips unlike others I've tried, and I find 1.5" to be just about right.

I like the regular feeders and my horse trailer has openings on the side. The smaller holes in the hay bag will keep the hay in the bag rather than it being blown away.

1" openings should work well to keep horses from eating too fast

about how many flakes of hay does this hold?
A shopper on Sep 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I can get two large flakes of alfalfa in it and probably the same with Timothy or coastal.

A shopper on Aug 8, 2018
