SOLITUDE(R) IGR Insect Growth Regulator Feed-Through Fly Preventive by Zoetis, formerly Pfizer You can substantially reduce your fly population simply by adding a scoop of SOLITUDE(R) IGR daily to your horse's feed. Regardless of the farms around you, it will reduce flies at your barn. Use it during fly season to eliminate larvae development. It's economical to use, and safe for other pets that might also be eating your horse's manure. SOLITUDE(R) IGR (cyromazine) is a non-organophosphate that has been safely used in horses since 2001 and undergone extensive research to prove its effectiveness and safety. It provides feed-through fly prevention and control of house and stable flies in and around horses, horse barns, stables, paddocks, and race tracks. When mixed into a horse's ration daily according to the directions, it works to prevent house and stable fly development. Significant results may be observed within two weeks, but the full benefit should be realized within four to six weeks of administration as the adult populations die off. Cyromazine, the active ingredient in SOLITUDE(R) IGR, has a well-documented safety and efficacy profile, It is an insect growth regulator that works on the fly's chitin exoskeleton and is very species-specific to house and stable flies. As the horse is fed cyromazine, it passes through the horse and is excreted in the manure. House flies and stable flies lay their eggs in the manure and the eggs subsequently hatch into the larval or maggot stage. As the maturing maggots feed on the treated manure, they become unable to successfully develop into adult flies because cyromazine inhibits the proper formation of chitin. The immature stage of the fly dies. Cyromazine has no effect on the chitin of the adult fly. SOLITUDE(R) IGR will provide a high degree of fly control and will give the best results when integrated with a well-managed fly control program that includes appropriate sanitary and management practices to reduce the number and size of fly breeding sites. Dosage: To maximize the effectiveness, horses must be fed individually. Made from alfalfa, these pellets are to be fed top-dressed on grain or mixed with the horse's total ration to provide 300mg of cyromazine per horse per day. Using 1/2 oz. scoop supplied with the product, mix one scoop of SOLITUDE(R) IGR in the horse's ration every day. Warning: Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage and disposal. Prozap(R) War Paint Insecticide Paste War Paint(R)requires very small amounts to kill and repel flies. Small amounts of War Paint are placed on the horse only where flies tend to congregate. War Paint, when applied to the horse, attaches to the hair of the horse and slowly releases the insecticide over a period of weeks. Full body fly control does not usually occur until 1 to 2 days after the application. The reason for this is it takes awhile for the formulation to release the insecticide onto the horse's hair. Because War Paint is not only an insecticide, but also an effective repellent, you will notice that in the case of face fly activity, the repellent activity of the product will be apparent within hours if not immediately after application. After a period of one to two weeks, as the insecticide is released onto the horse's hair, you will find that War Paint becomes powdery and will fall off the horse's hair leaving no adverse effects on the horse's appearance. Directions for Use: Remove product tubes from package. Fold along perforation between tubes and tear off one tube. Return unused tubes to package. Holding tube with notched end pointing up and away from face and body, snap off narrow end at notches. Apply one tube (10.0 mL) of product solution as follows: 5 mL along the back line starting at the poll (top of head behind the ears), along the base of the mane, down the dorsal midline to the dock (base of the tail). 1 mL to the top of the forehead under the forelock. 1 mL, as a stripe, to the back of each foreleg, from the ankle up to the knee (2 mL total). 1 mL, as a stripe, to the back of each hindleg, from the ankle up to the hock (2 mL total). Do not allow the product to contact horse's eyes or mucous membranes. Wrap tube and put in trash. Do not re-apply for 14 days (2 weeks). For external use on horses only. Do not use on animals other than horses. Consult a veterinarian before using this product on debilitated, aged, medicated, pregnant or nursing horses. Consult a veterinarian before using on horses with known organ dysfunction. Certain medications can interact with pesticides. It is advisable to consult a veterinarian before using this product with any other pesticide or drug. Some animals may be sensitive to ingredients in this product. Reactions in horses may include skin sensitivity. Horses may show lethargy, increased pruritis (itchiness), erythema (redness), rash and hair discoloration or hair loss at the application site. Observe the horse following treatment. Sensitivity may occur after using any pesticide product on animals. If signs of sensitivity occur, bathe your horse with a mild, non-insecticidal shampoo and rinse with large amounts of water. If signs continue, consult a veterinarian immediately.
